Early Influence
In 1978, the legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and teacher, Rolls Gracie, met up with legendary wrestling coach, Bob Anderson. After training together — sharing techniques and ideas — the two became fast friends. Many of Anderson’s insights were incorporated into Rolls’ jiu-jitsu game.
Every Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu white belt learns the keylock. The keylock was brought into jiu-jitsu by Anderson during a training session with Rolls when Rolls asked him what he would do from a certain position.
Every since the keylock has also been known as The American Lock or The Americana.
